When I Served My Country (contd...)

4.

“Bros, abeg wake up. Na here you go drop o!” The half-greased driver screamed me out of my slumber. With the kind of stress I had undergone, any healthy man could doze off on a television pole. It’s the nightmare I couldn’t explain. I sluggishly disengaged my awfully tired frame from the pack of metals that kept groaning even at a stand-still. As the scrap screamed away, I looked at the signpost behind me…I was half way from home. At least, I heard people speaking the earth’s dialect and saw an inscription, “ODUKPANI JUNCTION”. In my heart, that same signpost read “YOU ARE ALIVE”, not withstanding my distance from home.

Little did I know that my journey had only just began!
